Kia ora and Welcome

Clayton Park is a happy and hard working  full primary school. We cater to students from Year 1 right through to year 8. We are very proud of the excellent academic achievement results for our students for the last few years. Don’t take our word for this, you can check out our national standards results at the Ministry Website, at   The literacy and maths results are outstanding. This doesn’t happen by accident! Constant hard work and high expectations for students and teachers, holiday reading contracts, a strong Home-School Partnership, and great support from parents and whanau are all really important.

Last year we opened our wonderful new hall, a fantastic place for coming together as a school and a community, for sports and PE, and especially for performing arts. We are so proud of our Music programme. Every week we are thrilled by the singing, dancing and cultural performances of our Tamariki.

Later this year the builders will start to rebuild the rest of the school, replacing our classrooms with brand new, modern learning environments. The plans for the new school are on display in the foyer – very exciting! We will have one of the best school buildings in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Last year the Board consulted with the community about what sort of schooling options they would like for their children. There was an overwhelming preference for students to stay at Clayton Park until year 10 or even to year 13.  The Board applied to the Ministry to become a composite school,  so that students could stay to  Year 10 before going on to  high school at the start of  Year 11.  But the Ministry has not allowed this to happen yet, but  instead decided to carry out a review of schooling options across Manurewa. This review must include some sort of community consultation but this has not yet happened.  The Board is still completely committed to Clayton Park becoming a Year 1 – 10 school as quickly as possible, and will apply again for the 2016 school year.

There is so much going on at the school. Awhi Kai programme provides over two hundred good quality lunches to our students every day, with $3 and $5 options available. The best school food I have ever eaten! Two new minibuses mean that all our children will get to experience more trips than ever, for sports and competitions,  but also skiiing, to visit Marae, Museums, beaches – you name it.  Our wonderful Te Whanau Tautoko means that parents are not just welcome in our school every day, with a real sense of ownership and belonging. Just look at the brilliant school gardens created by and maintained by Te Whanau Tautoko. There is too much going on for me to talk about here.

With so much going on at school, we still find time to welcome visitors and answer questions. Just give us a ring to make a time  or drop in to the office and pick up an information pack.
