Greetings to all our students, whanau and friends
Yesterday we got a phone call from Minister Nikki Kaye. It was one of the nicest phone calls ever! The funding for our new school buildings has been approved at last – about $15,000,000.
This is an enormous investment in our Tamariki and our community – and in a brilliant new school. Ka pai!
We have already designed it, so work can start and finish quickly. Building will start before the end of the year. We have already reorganised classes to ‘make space’ for the work to happen. No more class moves or adjustments until we move into the completed new school. Enough of that last year!
We will put the plans for the new school on display soon.
The Announcement from Minister Nikki Kaye also talks about the new ‘Communities of Learning.’ We are already working with the Ministry and with other local schools to improve the learning pathways for our students right through high school and on to succeed in Tertiary education. We will tell you more about this as soon as we can.
We acknowledge the amazing courage, determination and leadership of the Board of Trustees working to make this happen over the last seven years.
The Board has just been through a process of renewal, with some trustees standing back, some carrying on and other new parents stepping forward to pick up the baton for the next stage. But like ‘the axe of my grandfather’, it is the same Board. Now we can get on with the next bit, together.
We also acknowledge the hard work and support of many people in the Property Team at the Ministry of Education over the last three years. Minister Nikki Kaye said it very well: “This announcement is the result of several years of work and completes an important phase in what is one of our most complex school redevelopments.”
The sun is shining a little more brightly today.

“This is the axe of my grandfather. Over time it has had five new handles, and three new axe heads, but… it is the same axe.”
