Studio 2’s GREEN HOUSE
Studio two have started to set up our school greenhouse! We grew Kale! We also made kale chips. They were delicious! We made them and wrote down the ingredients and instructions for our writing lesson. So now we can help Mum and Dad with some cooking at home!
END OF BFG UNIT
Studio two have finally finished the BFG literacy unit. WOW what a great book to explore language with. We also learnt about themes like unlikely friendships, over coming hardship, bullying and dreams – having goals.
Bee Lady Visits
This term studio two has been learning about plants and how they go from the plant to our plate! We started a conversation about Bees last week because we know they are what help most plants grow. We asked a bee expert to come in and talk to us about Bees so we could learn more. So the Bee Lady came with her Bees and Honey and talked to us about how important bees are to humans. Turns out we actually cannot live without them! We ate honey and made a honey sandwich, we made Bees Wax candles, and learnt about the parts of the bee.
BFG
Studio 2 has been reading the BFG everyday and we are loving it!!! We have been writing lots about the BFG and everyone has learnt the word colossal and have been putting it in their writing! Mrs Anketell worked hard with the kids to make their very own ‘frobscottle’! It was scrumptious and we loved writing about it!!!
As part of our “Keeping ourself safe” topic, Studio 2 have been learning about the different foods we can eat to best look after ourselves. We visited the Botanical gardens here in Auckland and had such an incredible time! We toured the gardens and had a session with the educator called “Patch to Plate” where we learnt all about the foods grown in the ground that then transform on our plates. It was such a fantastic trip!!! Thank you to all those parent helpers that came along to support us!
As part of our daily routine we are building our ideas about words. At our painting and craft tables we use crayon and paint to design the letter of the week where we can then collage pictures or words from magazines that start with that letter sound.
We can hold our pencils correctly while forming letters in our handwriting lessons. Friends are great at letting us know when we should try again.
Our play dough table is where we think about new words from picture cards or word walls. We make those words on our play dough plate mat.
